I read a blog recently of man whose son died serving our Country in Iraq. (in fact his son's unit lost several men) This man did not agree with President Bush and felt that as a President, he wasn't doing a good job. However, he never criticized the man or blamed him for the death of his son. The White House contacted the families of this unit and explained President Bush would be at the memorial for the men who died. They said he would be on a tight schedule. Well, it seems President Bush spent several hours talking with these families individually. In addition, there was one particular mom, who couldn't make it to the memorial. Well, months passed and she is phoned and asked to come to the White House. Did the media report any of this? (see the attached link to see the full story) Thank You Mr. Bush
Too many people allow their opinions to be based off what the media says. (Here's a clue, bias, if you aren't sure what it means, see a dictionary) Better yet, visit a 5th grade classroom where we teach bias, propaganda, and media techniques. Instead of basing your opinions off what the television reports, do your own research.

For me, I would like to thank President Bush and Mrs. Bush for a job well done! Please continue to hold your head high! For the most of us in the United States, we know what respect is and you deserve the upmost respect!

Happy Birthday, Robin!

Happy 34th Birthday my dear friend. We have been through a lot over the years but, one thing stays true and always will, our friendship. I appreciate you and the things you have helped me overcome throughout the years. You are an amazing woman, daughter, mother, wife, and friend. I couldn't let today go by without telling you how important you are to me. I know there are many miles that separate us, however, I am truly grateful for our friendship! Work is about the same. New students who bring me a challenge and that's why I love teaching. Brian is going to school and is truly working hard in life. I am proud of his decisions thus far and hope that he continues to make the right choices. Brandon tried school and well, it wasn't his thing. He is still working as a cook and seems to like it. What cracks me up is he cooks all day and does a good job, why does he burn eggs at home? Bruce III recently found someone new to share his life with. Her name is Elizabeth. I wish them all the luck in the world. Brent is doing well, seems to be maturing some. He too is working and seems to like what he does. Brittney, well what can I say. She still isn't speaking to me and recently made some post to her myspace about step mothers and if they don't want the kids, why do we marry their fathers. What's funny in all of this, is it has and continues to be her choice. I have welcomed all of Bruce's children in to my life. I think of them as my own. So, I personally think I should get the step monster of the year award. Better yet, I think anyone whether man or woman, who chooses to openly accept their partners children should receive awards. So, to all you out there who have opened your heart, this posts for you!

HAVE TO

I have to post this message!

Bruce, the love of my life has dedicated himself to getting up weekday mornings at 4:30 and going to the gym. He convinced me to tag along. We make a good workout team. Bruce has lost 35 pounds! He went over 6 weeks before convincing me to go! UGH
I ended my summer by going to Albuquerque and seeing my meme! So, all the traveling has made me ready for school. So, as they same in the Olympics, "LET THE GAMES BEGIN"!

Camping in Silverton

<img style="display:block; Anyone who has been to my house knows that the pool isn't all one depth. Starts out at 3 feet and then drops sharply to 12 feet. So playing volleyball means that one team is in the deep end, the other team in the shallow. It was hilarious to see the young guys versus the old guys. We have those in shape and those that have over the years put on a few pounds. I want to see what these studs look like in a few years! Each one had their own agenda. However, by the end of the visit. Both wanted to see Princess Jasmine. Unfortunately it didn't happen! Maybe next time! Florida is a beautiful state. It is so green and lush. This is due to the humidity, which is what causes sweat. Humidity also causes flat hair! But, I still had fun. The house we stayed in was BEAUTIFUL. I finally got to see how the other half live. The home was LARGE and the pool and hot tub were beautiful. I would love to have to screen shelter over my backyard. We talked about it, but soon came to the realization that the snow would collapse the screen house! DARN IT!
We have lots of photos and I promise to post some when time permits. Until then, enjoy the pictures taken by Disney. I am buying a few....they are just so expensive!

Disney Photos

We are glad to be home just keeping VERY busy.

PS. As I type my sister is in her 25th hour of labor.....My niece doesn't want to join us! Could it be that it's because her parents won't pick a name!

El Paso/ Mexico

Well, the Roughnecks finally suffered defeat. With the loss came many tears. I was on the sidelines taking pics and was up close and personal to the players. The Brawlers are an excellent team and I am not trying to take anything away from their victory. With that said, I am disappointed in the coaching staff. Why in the world would you change something that had worked for 11 games and obviously was successful? Next, while these changes occurred, it seemed to get to the moral of our team. The players began fighting amongst each other. We all know that there is no I in team. So, I feel these things contributed to our loss, not to mention the officials who charged us with at least 125 yards in different penalties. I'm not really exaggerating either.

On to some other fun stuff...so we traveled across the border. What a blast. There were a few scary moments. There's nothing like passing a federale with his assault machine gun attached to him, with his finger on the trigger. The second was getting into the cab hoping he would take us where we asked and not to the desert. We ended up at the market place and drank $1.25 Coronas and enjoyed the vendors coming around and negotiating prices. Bruce got a ROLEX...oh la la, no it's not real. But, most of us poor folk can't tell the difference. HA HA.

I have three days to recover and we are off to Florida. I'll catch everyone up when we return! I'm frantically booking another flight because our niece has worked so hard and she is going to travel with us! So, DISNEYWORLD here we come!

El Paso Bound!

Hats off to the Roughnecks! We just won ROUND 1 of the PLAYOFFS! WHOO HOO! My Pops had a wonderful game, despite his horrible sunburn. He laid sod without a shirt yesterday and got badly burnt. So, I can't imagine how it felt to put pads on and go out be hit! Yikes! The score of the game was 33-0. The game was dedicated to Ryon! Weird part, Ryon's birthday was 3/3! So, I am sure he was looking down on us! So, round two is in El Paso Texas on my BIRTHDAY! So, we are Texas bound. Happy Birthday to me from Texas. I will be 33! HOLY COW! Well, wish us luck in El Paso....

It's been awhile

Wow, it's been awhile since I have posted. Life has been hectic. End of the year is so crazy. My students last day was Wednesday, I am currently making up snow days from this past winter. While those days were nice, I hate giving up my summer.
Let's get caught up.....The Roughnecks finished their season 10-0. The were slated to play their first playoff game this past Saturday. The team that they were supposed to play forfeited. So, that counts as a win and we move into round two of the finals. We take on the Albuquerque Aztecs again! We have beat them twice already. This game shall be interesting.

Professionally speaking, I applied to be accepted into a program called Technology Leadership. The program gives thousands of dollars worth of equipment for your classroom. Each student will be given a lap top. I receive a digital camera, video projection stuff, etc. I didn't think I would actually be accepted, because I was declined last year. Well, I found out this morning that I have been accepted! I am VERY excited! I have to do 5 days of training upon my immediate return from Florida. However, I am still thrilled.

Joseph is growing like a weed and cant wait for vacation. The rest of my kids seem to be doing well too. Brian, is holding a job and actually is taking us to dinner tonight! Bruce and Kayla will be moving into their own place on the 14th of June. Brent, well, I have no clue! Brandon, is working hard and calls me weekly just to tell me he loves me. We have a date on Saturday. My niece, Alicia is also doing well. She takes her GED on the 5th and 6th of June. I have no doubt that she will pass. We then are going to sit down and figure out what college classes she is going to enroll in. All in all, the kids are doing well.

Aunt Becky and Uncle Mikey don't do anything but work. We hardly see them any more. Aunt Becky is leaving for Kentucky tomorrow to surprise her mom for her 50th birthday! Happy Birthday to her. Speaking of birthdays, mine is approaching quickly!!! YIKES. Nah, it's really not that bad.

Papa Bruce or Pops, is still the man of my dreams who makes me smile! I love this man with all my heart. Yes, we have ups and downs but I love this man!

Well, I think that's all the news and gossip I have for now.......

Robin I miss you! I am planning a trip your way soon!

Meridith don't rush things...you won't ever sleep the same!

Grandma Joy thank you for having such a wonderful son!

To everyone else peace, love, and happiness!

Congratulations Class of 2008

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the following students graduating from Piedra Vista High School today.

Danny Kean, Tiffany Sappington, and Jordan Solomon.

We are so proud of all of you and know that each one of you has the potential to be and do anything you hearts desire.

#24 Rest In Peace

It is with a heavy and sad heart that I write this post. On Friday, May 16, 2008 David "Ryon" Alcon passed away. Ryon who was 26 years old was a member of the Farmington Roughnecks. It doesn't help that I also am currently suffering from a horrible sinus infection. Thank you to all my fifth grade students for hacking on me and getting me sick! So, I'm sure you can tell that I am in a wonderful mood. NOT~ Let's see, this week, I have felt horrible, had someone question what kind of friend I really am, and I just read that the little boy (19 months old)who fell in the pool, died. My heart is breaking for that family. Before all of you get on your soap boxes about wow, that would never happen to me. Stop and think again. As a parent, you do the best you can and believe it or not, you can't watch them 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This family lived in a beautiful home with a well secured pool area. (Not like mine) The toddler had a separate play area with a latched fence. The pool was covered. It seems that the latch failed and for two seconds the mother turned around and he fell in the pool and despite all the efforts of the hospital died. I am just sick to my stomach. Every other weekend my child goes on the road with Leon and I worry my self sick. I know that life doesn't come with a guarantee. However, I can guarantee every one that should something happen to my Joseph, they will have to bury me too!
So now on to another issue I have this week. I work in a field of predominantly women. There are a few male teachers in the field, but not many. I get the great pleasure of working with two awesome men. Both are married and I think very highly of their spouses. Well it seems that one or maybe several of my FEMALE coworkers got together and emailed the wife of one of my male coworkers. They told her that her husband was basically doing very inappropriate things at work with fellow female coworkers! They mentioned that they were uncomfortable working around him. I find this VERY funny because there isn't one damn person in this building who hasn't asked this man for help and he gladly has done it. I am appalled at these coworkers of mine. These wonderful females have now made me paranoid. I was sitting in a meeting with both of my male com padres and said, we better be careful someone might email inappropriate things to your wives. I don't get it. What's even worse is the person or person's behind this, didn't have the decency to let their identity be kno

wn, they did it the chicken sh%t way! How pathetic is that? I am here to tell anybody who reads this that both of the men I work with are awesome and neither one has EVER done anything to make me feel uncomfortable.

Well, now that I really have rambled on and on and on....I will go! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

GO ROUGHNECKS! We have a game Sunday in Belen. This roadie will be staying home this weekend. Here's to 18 days of school left.

With success comes negativity.....WHY?

So now that the Farmington Roughnecks have found success, everyone and their mama wants to criticize or bash these guys! Why? I logged on to my link (Frantz Interview) to see the article, at the end I noticed there was a way to post a comment. I saw that there had been 5 or 6 posted. I was appalled at the first couple of comments. Of course as a fan, I had to leave my two cents. However, I just don't understand people. Why do others have to be so negative? Is it jealousy? I don't want to believe that there is this much hatred in the world. It sickens me to think that men and women are overseas fighting for our freedoms, so others can just bash whomever they want here at home. Please don't get me wrong. I am not a tree hugger and there are many people whom I dislike. However, I don't go out of my way to intentionally bash them or hurt them. What satisfaction does one get doing that? I don't understand it....anyone care to explain it to me? I will continue to support the Four Corner Roughnecks, not just because I have family members on the team, but because these are a group of men dedicated to giving back to their community. The guys really do more than play a game. They hold fundraising events for things like the Special Olympics, Autism, etc. I know that these players do more for the community than most people I know, including me. I personally will continue to be a Roughneck Roadie long after my boys are done playing!

Farmington Roughnecks 8-0

Today was another GREAT day for the Farmington Roughnecks. They beat the Albuquerque Aztecs 23-0! Way to go fellas. It was a cold windy game for the fans. But, us die hards were out braving the conditions.
#55 and #51 were both featured in today's paper. The article was a great one and includes a picture! Check out the link below!

Frantz Interview

Morals

So I have one big question......WHERE HAVE ALL OUR MORALS GONE?

Last week I had some students get caught cheating. I had asked students to take out some homework from the night before (5 problems). One student had it in a group, but her best friend, and other friend didn't. I got called out of the room. When I returned the student who had the homework handed in her friends and said, "Ms. Acosta they found their homework." Really? I explained to this student that I was born at night, but it wasn't last night. She felt bad and started crying and ratting out who had really copied. So, as a punishment they had three days lunch detention, 150 sentences, and a note written from them to their parents. I think it sounds fair. Well, Monday, I received a nasty voicemail from one of the mother's who was appalled at the way I handled the situation. After all, it was only cheating. What was the big deal. No, I am not exaggerating. That is what the woman said. When I called her. She continued to tell me that she hated to see her daughter so upset and how could I be so mean. That it was only cheating. So, I ask all of you who read my blog to please tell me am I wrong for wanting to know where in the world our morals have gone to? The sad thing, is I still have 28 days to go. It's really difficult to look at this student every day.

Roughnecks 7-0; Can we make it 8?

The road to Grants, NM is the one of the worst roads I have ever traveled in my life. The road is in need of some major repairs. While the road sucked, the Roughnecks did not. Once again, they were able to pull off a victorious win over the New Mexico Titans. The defense once again dominated! They made sure the only scores the Titans would score would be field goals. I am not just saying the defense is awesome because both #55 and #51 are defensive players! The Roughneck Defense is truly the real deal! The offense was good too! However, I was disappointed in the actions of our quarterback. He openly criticized our running backs on the field. Several of his throws couldn't have been caught by the best of the NFL. It's a good thing that the Titans didn't pick up on this and use it to their advantage. This Saturday the Roughnecks take on the Albuquerque Aztecs. This is sure to be a great game. Kick off is at 6:00pm. We will sure to be there cheering our team on to 8-0!

I am a ROUGHNECK ROADIE! I will follow this team to the end....and hope it's the State Championship!

Can you SAY 6 and 0 & 55 made the paper to boot!

That's right Roughneck fans. The team is now 6 and 0. This past Sunday we took on The Las Vegas Outlaws. While this team was out numbered on the field. They played one heck of a game. The Outlaws only had three substitute players so basically they played Iron Man Football. While this sounds easy, think about playing 4 quarters of football with really only one break (half time). There are no substitutions when you need a breather or a break. It was obvious that this team had a heart of gold and must truly LOVE this sport. The Farmington Roughnecks held the team at bay and my own #55 had a fumble recovery. While I would like to say I saw the play, I didn't. Kayla said she needed to tell me something and unfortunately this occurred at the same time of his play. Both of the Frantz boys had a good game. I am happy to say that the Daily Times finally did a decent job on reporting the game. They even mentioned Bruce's "big" play. Check out the link below to access the article. Here are some pictures from the game. This upcoming Saturday we are traveling to Grants to take on The Titans.....GO ROUGHNECKS, GO!
The Daily Times Article

This is how a 4 year old Parties

Here are some pictures from Joseph's 4th birthday at Nana's house. We would like to thank Nana and Papa Joe for Bowie Dog. Uncle Mikey and Aunt Becky for the clothes for Bowie Dog and of course the CARS stuff too! Thank you to Aunt Alma, Uncle Bert, and Amanda for the Princess throw and cool coloring stuff. This years theme was....can anyone guess? Yep, Princess. Unlike me, he takes nothing for granted. So, I want to know how to become that person. Life has no guarantees, so why do we takes things for granted and live as if we have eternity? I encourage everyone to check his story out. Whether it be his book, his video on you tube, something. Here is a man who is facing death, and yet all he wants to talk about is living. The Pausch family will be added to my nightly prayer list. Good luck to him and may God bless him and his family.

TGIF!!!

I can not tell you how glad I am that it is FRIDAY! Bruce told me tonight, "You are one of the hardest working people I have ever been with." Ya think? All the ones before me didn't have jobs and were pigs. Didn't clean house, nothing. So, I guess that because I help, I am hard working! Do you think he's taking advantage of me? HAHA! Well, my brushes have to be cleaned before I turn in....

Spring Break and Drywall

Yipeeee!!! Spring break has finally arrived and none to soon! My students were as ready for a break as I was. Now the bad part is, I will be working like a slave on my new, almost complete master suite. I say almost because it finally looks like a bedroom. Bruce worked diligently to hang the dry wall and while it doesn't sound hard, it is. Especially, when where you are trying to hang it in a room that isn't square. The next set back was our original dry waller went MIA! WTF? I am ready for tape and texture and he's no where to be found. Bruce is really smart! He and his brother (Sam-who's home on leave for a couple weeks) drove to the new subdivision behind our house and recruited the dry wallers to come give us an estimate. The guy speaks limited English, however his skills are FANTASTIC! You can't even tell we hung the drywall incorrectly! They came in and taped today and will be back tomorrow to do the texturing. What that means, is starting Saturday I should be able to paint! After painting comes the closet fixtures, then carpet, and then, oh my gosh....my room back! I can not wait. I have been living in my second living area downstairs since right after Christmas. In addition to the new room, I have to shop for new furniture. We sold our old bedroom set to Sam. While it's beautiful, I want us to be able to pick something out together! So, as I sit here and sip my beer thinking how great it is for spring break to be here, I am really wondering if I mean that! Don't get me wrong, I am not allergic to work, but darn it, spring break should be a time of resting, right?! Well I'll keep ya'll posted on my progress. Should any of you out of towners, want to lend a hand, type='text'>Childhood Doesn't Wait

There are days in my life in which I would love to turn back the clock. All to often, time goes to fast. It seems just yesterday I was bringing home Joseph from the hospital. In less than two weeks, my baby boy will be 4! Childhood doesn't wait for anyone. I am reminded today of how many things I need to let go so that I can truly enjoy time with my child. I found this poem online and wanted to share. The author is unknown. To all the mother's I know, the mother's that will be, and those who are trying I share this with you.

Childhood Doesn't Wait

I was sitting on a bench while in a nearby mall,

When I noticed a young mother with two children who were small.

The youngest on was whining, "Pick me up," I heard him beg

but the mother's face grew angry as the child clung to her leg

"Don't hang on to me," she shouted as she pushed his hands away,

I wish I had the courage to go to her and say.....

"The time will come too quickly when those little arms that tug,

won't ask for you to hold them or won't freely give a hug."

The day will sneak up subtly just as it did with me,

When you can't recall the last time your child sat on your knee.

"Like those sacred, pre-dawn feedings when we cherished time alone

our babies grow and leave behind those special times we've known."

"So when your child comes to you with a book that you can share

or asks that you would tuck him in and help him say his prayer...."

When he comes to sit and chat or would like to take a walk,

before you answer that you can't cause there's no time to talk

Remember what all parents learn so many times too late,

That years go by too quickly and that childhood doesn't wait.

Take every opportunity if one should slip away

Reach hard to get it back again, don't wait another day.

I watched that mother walk away her children followed near,

I hope she'll pick them up before her chances disappear.

I am reminded by two great songs by Trace Adkins.....

One is "Then they do" the other is "You're going to miss these days" (check it out at the bottom)

Tonight, I will enjoy my child like no other night, and I hope that I can look back on this daily as a reminder of just how fast time flies....

<br went to celebrate their victory. The fans of course tagged along (myself, Kayla, Aunt Becky, and Uncle Mikey). While at the celebration we got to meet three former Denver Broncos players. Ron Elgoff (left side with cap), Mark Jackson(right end black shirt), and Tyrone Braxton( middle with vest). These players are WAY cool. Mark gave us his phone number and wants to us to come visit him in Denver. All three signed Joseph's T-shirt and various other items for us. We have a bye this week, which means no game. Our next game is on the road. We take on the Santa Fe Sting at De Vargas High school in Santa Fe, on Sunday, March 30, 2008.

Keep up the GREAT work Roughnecks.

Rather Embarrassing......

So I started tanning again today. I am ready to start wearing Capri's and I don't want to look like Casper the white ghost! So, I went to tan on my lunch break. I invested in a new lotion that is supposed to enhance your tan. I applied the lotion quickly and tanned. When I got out of the tanning bed....I was as red as a lobster in some places. It seems that you have to be exact when applying this lotion because all of the places I hadn't applied it or put just a little bit were white. I returned to work and my coworkers kept asking me what was wrong....um, I was in a hurry and I am a dork! What makes matters worse is that I have a presentation in less than an hour at another school. I am going to look like a freak. Well, guess that's the price that you pay for beauty.

Family

I found this really cool website and decided to play around with it. If you have some photos and want to try it, click on the link below.
www.magmypic.com

Nana and Joseph having fun.

And Uncle Mikey being sexy! I know I said I wasn't really looking forward to it. But, there is something about a guy in a football uniform. Plus, my Bruce can move! I was very impressed with #55's ability. The guys on the team call him "Pops". I think it's cute. His first play he had a great tackle. The next play, another great tackle. The play is over. The player on the other team keeps hitting Bruce in the head. He did it three times, the next thing I know, they are going at it. It caused the team a penalty which caused the coaches to get upset. But, they said in all fairness, the guy had it coming. I was VERY proud to be on the sidelines.

#51 Frantz III, had an AWESOME game. He had great tackles and a sack too! One tackle caused him to bruise his sternum, but as he said, it's part of playing the game. I know that Kayla was so proud of him too. To support the guys, I am going to embroider their numbers on our shirts. Then on the back I will have "Frantz". Kayla, will have "Frantz III".

The drive back from Albuquerque was good. However, the father and son duo slept the whole way back. Check out the pictures.

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON!

Aren't they cute?

Congratulations # 51!!!!

I have to say Congratulations to this weeks Southwest Football Player of the Week.... Bruce is playing defensive tackle! Boy, I am learning a lot of new terms with this football endeavor of his! I went to get in my car this morning and sitting in the passenger seat were his football pads. I guess deep down I have always wanted to be in love with a football player! (Just Kidding) Tonight, I have to go by arm pads and gloves! Who knows what else. I guess I will need to look like a supportive fan, so I am going to have to get a Roughnecks Sweatshirt! Bruce came home after practice and asked Joseph if he thought papa should be playing football. Bruce just knew someone would be on his side.....I laughed when Joseph looked up at him and said "NO!" Great minds think alike. Again, I would ask everyone to keep the prayers coming our way. The game is tomorrow night at 7:00pm.

He's Lost His Mind.......

I never dreamed when I awoke this morning that by the end of the day my hubby would be playing on a semi-pro football team. That's Right....The 42 year old wanna be drill Sgt has decided that he wants to play football with the twenty somethings. The man has lost his mind. Bruce's first game will be this Saturday in Albuquerque. While that sounds exciting, I am trying to retrieve in my mind the last time this man really worked out. Now he's going to go run the field with guys half his age. I have mixed emotions about his new endeavour. I am nervous, worried, etc. I mean I know me well enough to know that on Sunday morning I am not going to have the patience to take care of this man. I will provide him with pain killers, but above and beyond that the man is on his own. Secretly, I am hoping that he will be so sore that he will want to hang the cleats up forever. My step son plays for the Farmington Roughnecks too. The others don't like me nor their father. This hurts me a lot because it's hard to be with someone and watch them hurt because their kids won't have anything to do with them. So, I seem to ask myself daily, how do you mend relationships? I hope someday that my step children will see that as parents, we do not come with instruction books and Lord knows, we do the best we can. As a STEP MONSTER, I am trying with all me heart to be there and do the right things. I wish that I could have been around sooner, because I think that things would have turned out differently. However, I can't change the past, all I can do is try and hope for a better future.

Have to Share.....

I know, I know....You are only supposed to post once a day, hopefully this will be my last post, if not, oh well. Anyways, the reason for this post is because I need to share a story. Yesterday, I was dropping Joseph off at Nana's house. (Nana watches Joseph so I can inspire the next generation....yeah right! Not this week with testing) Anyways, as I am unloading Jospeh from the car a bird flies by. Joseph says, "Mama a bird." I said, "Where?" Joseph says, "Right there, it's a poker wood." I said, "A what?" He says, "A poker wood." I said, "What's a poker wood?" He said, "It pokes wood." I said, "Do you mean a woodpecker?" He said, "Maybe, does a woodpecker poke wood." I laughed so hard. This story and others like it are the real reason behind this blog. So, I know, I know, I am only supposed to have one posting a day.....But who can resist.

Happy Birthday Uncle Mikey

Today is my little brother's birthday. Even though he is younger than I am, he is bigger than I am. Growing up I wasn't the best sister to him. However, I love him more than he will ever know. I hope you have a great day and I hope that your year is filled with good health, lots of laughter, and great new memories!
